About

Making donation make sense

Portrait of Eric Phillips

I'm an organ procurement educator and communicator working to grow donation awareness and the donor registry across Alabama.

My work lives where public education meets the systems that make donation possible. At Legacy of Hope, I serve as an educator and as a liaison to the Alabama Probate court system and the state licensing system — the institutions where so many registry decisions are made. Alongside two colleagues, I also help manageDonate Life Alabama, the nonprofit that is the public-facing face of donation education in our state.

Nationally, I serve on multiple Donate Life Americasubcommittees and present each year at the annual conference, on topics ranging from optimizing the relationship between donation programs and the DMV to opening new pathways into the organ donation registry. In2024 and 2026, I led the committee responsible for the Donate Life America Driver's License Partner (DLP) and Donor Registry Survey.

I'm a communicator and science educator at heart. A lot of my work is translation — taking the science and the process of procurement and turning it into clear, honest, public-facing education through infographics, presentations, and conversation.
